Kerrie Van Weelden is a passionate advocate for maternal mental health. Kerrie regularly speaks at professional conferences and in the media to raise awareness and address treatment of postpartum depression and other perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMAD).
She became an expert in the field through her more than 20 years experience working with individuals of all ages experiencing mental health crises. She was one of the founding practitioners of the Pine Rest Mother and Baby Program, and interacted with over 1,000 women experiencing perinatal distress in her time there. She also collaborated with colleagues on a research project that conclusively demonstrated the success of short-term, intensive treatment among their patient population.
Kerrie also provides professional consultation to organizations and individuals on the following topics. maternal mental health, perinatal mental health, social emotional health of of young children including parenting and early care environments and clinical supervision/consultation.
Kerrie's expertise is working with individuals during the child bearing years. There are a wide variety of experiences people face in the times of growing a family, including maternal/paternal anxiety, depression, mood changes; infant loss; role changes; work adjustment; unplanned pregnancies; health complications; infertility; sibling adjustment; and relationship stress. Kerrie uses multiple treatment modalities that will help meet a person’s needs. Kerrie has background in Infant Mental Health and Parent Child Relationships. Kerrie also has a passion for helping clients understand the neurobiology of stress and relaxation states using meditation and mindfulness. I use a variety of approaches including EMDR, Attachment Theory, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
